Tick-Tock, My Maya Clock
Learning the Basics Through a Watch
3rd May 2025Learning the Basics Through a Watch
3rd May 2025Hey creative souls, welcome back to another blog!
Finally, after a break filled with non-stop travel and crazy work schedules, I’m back at my keyboard writing again. These past two weeks were intense, but I missed writing and sharing little bits of my creative journey with you.
This blog is all about one of my earliest 3D modeling projects — a shiny, chain-style watch I created when I was just diving into Autodesk Maya.
Back then, UVs? Never heard of them. Texturing? Who’s she? It was all about playing around with shapes, geometry, and whatever little I knew about shaders.
So I went ahead and modeled a watch — purely from the modeling basics I knew at the time. And yes, I couldn’t resist engraving “SHADARTY Artist” on it. Call it obsession or brand love — it was my thing and still is.
At that time, for some mysterious reason, I was totally obsessed with watches.
Ironically though, I don’t even wear watches anymore!
I used to wear one on my right hand, but since I write and draw with that same hand, it kept getting in the way. And now, like most of us, I check the time on my phone. Watches have become more of an aesthetic than a need in this digital age.
This project didn’t have any “advanced techniques” — it was a raw, beginner’s attempt where I just applied whatever I knew.
I keyed the rotation of the watch hands manually, frame by frame.
Today, as someone more into rigging, I’d definitely set up a switch controller instead — it’s cleaner and more efficient.
I even used emission shaders on the hands and numbers, inspired by a friend’s radium watch. That glow gave me such joy back then!
Working on this blog made me reflect on time itself.
It’s wild — I’ve already finished my B.Sc., my Master’s, and completed school... all of it just flew by.
Time really does vanish like vapor. And now I feel like I’m in a time zone where everything’s paused... or maybe I’m just figuring things out. Either way — it's weird, it's real, and it's part of the journey.
So yeah, this blog might feel random or boring to some — but hey, it's my space to document, reflect, and connect. Whether you're reading this or I'm just writing it for myself... I'm glad it exists.
Keep creating, experimenting, and celebrating your progress.
You can’t follow my blog here yet, but you can follow me on Instagram and maybe YouTube for more behind-the-scenes, artworks, and creative chaos!
That’s it for today.
Peace out.✌️
Time flies, but art... art stays.
